Window Replacement: 3 Simple Steps to Prepare Your Home

Window replacement isn’t a regular occurrence. Even if you live in your home for two or three decades, you’re unlikely to get your windows replaced more than twice. That said, it may be tricky for you to approach a window replacement project. Aside from choosing which materials and styles to use, you need to prepare your home accordingly for the job ahead.

Don’t worry, your trusted window replacement and deck contractor has got your back. Here are three simple tips from the experts at Maris Home Improvements to help you get ready.

  • Move obstructions out of the way. Clear the path for technicians by removing furniture, appliances, decorations, clutter and anything else that presents a tripping hazard or blocks window frame access. Cover your flooring with drop cloths to protect its surface, as sooner or later, the repair crew will walk on it to access the work area.
  • Remove window treatments. Takedown window blinds, curtains, drapes, and interior and exterior shutters to make the process easier. If there are wall decors near the area, be sure to remove them as well. These items can create obstacles for the technicians offering their replacement window services. Additionally, these may be vulnerable to damage from hammers and caulk during the installation process.
  • Keep your valuables, kids, and pets safe. All the valuables that need to be removed from the pathway and work area should be transferred to another room to keep them safe. If you have kids and pets in the house, let them stay in a separate enclosed space, so they aren’t tempted to climb out through the window opening.

Planning ahead for the installation of your new windows doesn’t take a lot of effort, but it will guarantee a smooth and stress-free process from start to finish.
